Recently purchased an iPhone, so i was looking to upgrade my car's stereo to be able to both use the phone and listen to music. This unit both had ipod connectivity and bluetooth telephone(which my current stereo does not), and is also double din (as is my car). i've recently installed, so i've only had a couple days with it, so this is a first impressions review.

Install: easy and straightforward if you purchase a wiring harness specific to your vehicle (available at retailers such as walmart and crutchfield). it was installed in a 2005 scion tc.

operation: i'll admit, this is not the most simplest of units to operate, and i have to refer to the manual frequently to learn how to perform specific functions (such as saving a pre-set radio station), which is where it lost one star for me. the multi-function dial allows for "agile" maneuverability through the unit's controls though.

USB/IPOD: the unit's USB connectivity allows you to control your ipod (iphone in my case) straight through the unit. allows you to search by album, artist, playlist, etc- just as you would on the ipod itself. it also has the option to change the controls back to the ipod, if thats what you're more comfortable with. it also has an AUX input for other devices you may wish to listen to through the unit.

bluetooth telephone: i paired the unit through my phone, and that was done seamlessly. calls are clear for you, and as far as i know (only used once or twice so far), its clear on the other end as well (i've asked those i've called). the unit allows you to download your contacts from the phone to the unit itself, so you can dial straight off the unit. has recent calls, and a "speed dial" list for you to choose from, in addition to selecting any contact on your phone. has the ability to handle call waiting and refusing calls as well.

other: the unit comes with many audio adjustments (including the 7 channel equalizer- with several presets and 2 custom settings). with the proper adjustments, music sounds great through this unit. You can also "label" CDs, so the album name will display every time you insert that CD. my only complaint is that the display is TOO bright at night, but that can be remedied by the dimmer function (tho doesnt seem to work in my vehicle...not sure why yet), OR, you can turn off the illumination completely, which will re-illuminate if you change a setting (change track, volume, source).

I bought this deck to install in my 2001 Toyota Camry, it fits perfectly and looks great. The bluetooth call quality is very good, and the ability to play and charge my iPhone through the USB port is great. I would definitely recommend this deck for anyone with a double-DIN size opening in their car who wants to be able to take calls through the stereo and play their iPod without having to buy any additional adapters.

Two small complaints though. The remote that came with it is not very sturdy, mine is already coming apart at the edges. And there is no pause button on either the deck or the remote. I purchased this unit for my 2004 Subaru Forester. What I was looking for was a head unit that would (1) allow me to pair my iPhone to make calls and (2) allow me to play music through the iPhone or any other iPod.

Installation was very easy, and I only had to systematically look for the best place to put the microphone for optimum sound quality.

Only (minor) negatives are the following (why I only gave it 4 stars):
- When the iPhone is plugged into the USB port, and you make a phone call, there is a lot of interference. This only happens when the phone making the call is also connected to the unit through the USB. If another iPhone or iPod is connected to the unit, the noise is completely gone. Basically, I remedy this by unplugging the iPhone prior to taking a call.
- Menu navigation is a bit cumbersome at first, but quickly makes sense.
- Old iPods (I also have an iPod mini) will not work with this unit.

Pros:
- Easy connectivity through bluetooth (no other problem).
- Connectivity through the USB allows for full control of the iPod using the head unit: Just plug your iPod in (I have it wired into the armrest), and forget about it.
- Good music sound quality.

Overall, this provided me with everything I needed. A quick note: when I contacted the Pioneer folks about whether my iPhone would work with this unit, they said I'd need a different cable to connect through the head unit. They don't know their own products: You can use the CD-IU50 or the USB cable that came with your iPhone/iPod with no problem. I shopped around, read reviews from a ton of sites, read the specs back and forth and even compared stereos from different sites. There were a few things that I was looking for when it came to investing into a new stereo for my car. It needed to be able to play multiple audio files, have some type of bluetooth capability for my iphone.

I know that some bluetooth products are incompatable with the iphone and this stereo works out perfectly. I just installed it a few hours ago and have been playing around with it. so far, so good. It was my first attempt at installing a car stereo and I must say, it was fairly simple. I have an 08 toyota matrix and had to use all the adapters that came with the installation kit (which CRUTCHFIELD) was generous enought to give me for free.

They didn't fit perfectly, but with a few simple mods of my own I was able to install it just fine. the mic that it comes with is 13 ft. long and i hid it behind my rearview mirror with excess cord.

I highly recommend this stereo if you want an all-in-one product. what drew me to it was the blue tooth connectivity already built in to it. no $200 bluetooth kits needed and it connected very easily.

It's a great product for a great price with lots of options that I haven't even looked into yet (aux, subs, etc...) but know that if I upgrade my system that I'll be able to no problem. Not to mention that it's one sexy piece of work.

I replaced my Factory stereo on my toyota sequoia with this Pioneer. The sound quality really jumped up so much that I did not have to replace my original speakers or put in a sub woofer. At first it was difficult to understand how the radio stations are stored and retrived. This could have been made simple. I use the CD more than the radio and only one station on the radio and so this does not bother me. Very happy on the stereo CD player front.

The Blue tooth is OK. The mic is placed on the driver side door top corner (only place the installer could find a place without the wires showing up). This position does not help for others to speak into the microphone. Also when hearing to a converstaion on the vehicle's speakers, the person on the other end gets a slight echo thus interfering when they speak. In spite of this mini drawback, the use of bluetooth with hands free driving is so much more comfortable than any other way of talking on phone while driving. Sometimes you may not want the other passengers to hear the conversation and it is difficult to remove the BT quickly while driving thus making a private conversation difficult. Great when you are driving alone. The installer paired up motorola razor pretty easily, but when I tried to pair up my second motorala it was quite complicated. You get user manual only in CD, no printed book.

I have a Creative Zen Vision M (pretty recent version) and this is not compatible through the USB port. I was very dissapointed with this. REMEMBER TO ASK THE INSTALLER TO PROVIDE A PORT FOR AUX INPUT SO THAT YOU CAN PLUG IN YOUR OLDER DEVICES THAT DO NOT TAKE USB INPUT. DOES NOT HURT EVEN IF YOU HAVE AN IPOD.

Hands down, the best HU I've ever bought. I have an iPhone and really enjoy being able to control the ipod features with the head unit itself. I thought it was somewhat user friendly (once you get it figured out it's very simple), and you can do everything from search from a song by artist to play you your playlists you created on iTunes. Music resumes from where you last left off as soon as you plug in the iPhone. The handsfree phone sounds amazing as well to both you and the person you are talking to. Since it downloads your phonebook into the unit itself, it's very easy to take and make a call (and screen a call with the caller ID). When I get into my car I just plug in the ipod cord to the bottom of my iPhone, then put it in my center counsol because you don't need to do anything else with it. Caller ID, Song ID, etc. are all on the display. If the iPhone ever gets A2DP then this HU will be ready with its full bluetooth audio capability. Seriously, who needs a dvd player in their dash? All you need is a good unit that plays your music, and this one plays it all. It will handle all the standard CD, CDR, mp3, WMA, AAC files along with iPod. The iPod controls are excellent. iPod is the only mp3 player I have tried and I suspect others won't work, at least not well. I was also able to play mp3s from my cell phone via bluetooth. Speaking of bluetooth, cell phone integration is a snap. I'm using a Sony phone with mine and it works perfectly with it. The contacts download to the unit so I never have to look at the phone. I also tried an iPhone and a Samsung SGH-A737. The iPhone worked great but the Samsung would not allow the the contacts to download.

The main reason I chose this one over other double dins is the clean, simplistic look this one has. This is easily the best looking one available. While many cd players of this size can have twenty or more buttons this one has ten plus a center control knob. The knob serves many functions much like an ipod click wheel. The navigation through the menus is not perfect but is still just as good or better than most other units. It has a ton of features to please almost anyone. High pass and low pass filters with sub controls and multiple settings for more complex systems yet it's simple enough for a drop in replacement for a factory radio.

My biggest complaint is the fact you have to buy separate hardware to enable HD radio. This will cost you an extra $80-$100 if you want this feature. I haven't bought anything but Alpine in years. Unfortunately, with most of the Alpine decks, you can only control the iPod from the deck. This proves difficult and frustrating, especially with large libraries. Since the iPod Touch has such a great interface, it's simple to control. Overall I really like this unit. I replaced a stock head unit in my 2004 Subaru Forester. It sounds great, tunes in stations clearly, and most importantly it connects with my Blackberry Curve 8320 via bluetooth. Usually. The hands-free phone connection over bluetooth is flawless and works every time. It connects automatically and works and sounds fine.

However, and this is part that takes some effort, this unit also supports stereo and av control connections via bluetooth but getting this unit to connect as effortlessly is something I have not yet figured out. I have to disconnect using my phone after it fails and then initiate a connection from the head unit (three button presses) first, then, after it connects BT audio I switch to the hands-free phone connection on the unit and initiate a connection there. This method works every time but it requires a minute or so of sitting in the car fiddling with the stereo to get all connected.

I have also used the USB connection successfully but you don't get the AV controls through the unit, you have to skip tracks using the phone. I was able to upload my contacts from the phone (400 numbers anyway as this is the maximum) and can search using the headset but it's easier to use the phone for finding a number.

I have also used the AUX input headphone jack to play, but again, you don't get the controls.

If I remember right, to create a station preset you have to tune to your station, press the list button, rotate to the number you want it be and press and hold the knob for a few seconds.

As in previous posts:
- The knob scratches easily and I am contemplating something I can glue over it but so far it's not that bad.
- It's bright but there is a setting that dims it a little bit and another setting that kills the display all together. I was careful to be sure to connect the dimmer wire correctly but it seems to have no effect.

I have a Pioneer BT8000 (with HD) in my 2003 Subaru Forester with the upgraded Subaru speakers and sub woofer. I also added the ipod cable for my daughter.

The good news is; Bluetooth phone capabilities (used with a Motorola V9M) are excellent and well behaved, call quality excellent, radio audio also excellent. The radio switches to phone if a call comes in, switches back afterwards. HD, when you get it, can sound great.

The bad news is that it is very hard to use. There just are not enough controls. Each major control has numerous uses but only one use per control is listed. Setup is very difficult. No on-off switch (function is in another button and hidden). You try to raise the volume and you change the frequency or the preset. Tuner sensitivity on AM is poor at least with the HD tuner. The steering wheel remote is hard to mount, even harder to use without looking at it. Even worse, the manual is one of the worst I've ever gone through. Too many things are made too complicated or are not even covered. The quick setup is even worse.

This radio is great. I am reviewing the FH-P800BT. It fit absolutely perfect in my 2007 Chevy Silverado. I was able to pair up my iphone and download all the contacts instantly with no problem. This radio can memorize up to 3600 different numbers: 400 persons x 3 contacts x 3 phones. Even though I kept the factory speakers, this unit has made a world of difference. Much louder, cleaner, distinct sound comes from the same speakers...The remote has a nice feel and a cool little control knob as well. 22rms is good power, and (3) 4volt preamp outputs makes it great for future expansion which I plan to do.

Bought this unit to replace a Sony because of the Double Din and the BT function. Very satisfied with the purchase. The one complaint I have is that the face is VERY bright at night and the dimmer does not interface well with my GMC Sierra - can't tell any difference in brightness when the headlights come on.

I have this unit running with a 4 chnl 520W amp, Polk Audio separates in the front, coaxial rears and a 10 in. sub. Two channels bridged for the sub, two channels for the fronts, head unit amp for the rears. Sound is crisp and clean, though it doesn't have quite the "presence" that the Sony did (I haven't had a chance to fine tune the audio adjustments and it may be that I had become accustomed to the way the Sony sounded). The interface using the multi-control knob is somewhat cumbersome and navigating through the menu can be challenging at first. It certainly isn't something you want to do while driving. The BT interface is excellent and I had no problem pairing my cell phone. My phone did not have the proper chip to download my contact list to the receiver, but I was able to transfer each contact separately via BT and then assign a speed dial number to the ones I wanted. Receiving calls is very easy and the microphone seems to work well. My wife said she could hear some road noise. I was driving 65mph (that's my story and I'm staying with it) with studded snow tires so some noise is understandable. The noise didn't interfere with the conversation and sound quality coming to the receiver was very good. Making a call is fairly simple, with only a couple menu items to go through. The information displayed on the unit is very readable and the letters are nice and large. I wear glasses for reading, and don't have to use them while driving- I can read the display fine without them.

The USB connection is on the back of the unit, and a USB extension cable is included that easily routes to the glove box.

Instructions come on a CD, so you have to print the portions you want to do the initial setup and learn to navigate the menu. The written "Quickstart" guide is not detailed enough to actually get you started.

I've had this unit for almost a year now. I primarily purchased this head unit to use its bluetooth features. Unfortunately, the built-in stereo bluetooth does not work very well. The mono bluetooth works fine, but the stereo portion is not able to consistently connect to my stereo bluetooth-enabled smartphone (BlackBerry Storm 9530). If I had the input (on the Pioneer head unit) on anything other than stereo bluetooth when my car starts up, it would not connect to my smartphone via stereo bluetooth (A2DP). This is odd because the mono bluetooth would connect just fine regardless of the input I had the head unit on. The only way to get the stereo bluetooth to connect is to have the input already on stereo bluetooth (on the Pioneer) when I start my car. Otherwise, I'd have to change the input to stereo bluetooth on the head unit and then restart my car. This is extremely aggravating after extended use--I can't be start and stopping my car in traffic. Now you may think the issue is with my phone but my phone works with every other A2DP (stereo bluetooth) device I own just fine (pairs with 3 different devices perfectly), and I also had a BlackBerry Curve 8310 that behaved the same with with this head unit.

I tried calling Pioneer tech support and they were completely useless. The tech I spoke to said that the way it's malfunctioning is "impossible." What do you mean it's impossible? It's happening with my unit!

So if you're buying this to use with your stereo bluetooth device, be aware that this unit is not fully compatible with all A2DP devices, especially with BlackBerry devices (I have tried with Tour 9630 and Storm 9530). This is a shame since BlackBerrys are very popular. I also checked with Pioneer before I posted this review to see if they had a firmware update after all this time, but to no avail.

The USB feature is also very limited. There is a bug where it will play only one folder over and over though it's set to shuffle the entire volume. The USB port is also very picky as to what type of device it will support. It won't support most USB hard drives, even the smallest ones. I tried 6 different types. The only USB devices it seems to support are media cards like SD connected with a USB to SD card reader. And even then, the GUI for navigating the SD card is archaic.

However, if the A2DP/stereo bluetooth feature had worked correctly, I would have been really happy with this unit since the sound quality is pretty nice. With the way it's behaving badly, it's quite frustrating.

Edit: Oh, also the navigation knob does indeed get scratched very easily, and it's sometimes not the easiest thing to use.

Update: Since switch to the Motorola Droid, I have a lot less problems with Bluetooth, perhaps because of the Bluetooth version 2.1 support on the Droid. I bought this unit to replace my casette deck in my 2002 Tundra. Super easy to replace. Before you order your unit, check to see if the factory mounts can be re-used - I bought a mounting kit that I did not need. (In my specific application, you have to remove the factory amplifier in order to use the wiring harness).

The sound quality is great, the "wheel" takes some time getting used to, but the bluetooth is great. I also ran the Ipod cable through a hole in my ashtray so it can remain hidden from view but always remains hidden until I need it for run, etc.

this is such a sopisticated deck, it does way more than i thought it would be able to do. First off, dont be thrown by the comments of the display being too bright. if you have ever had a pioneer deck then you are already accustomed to the blue hue. If you havent, it still isnt that bright as people make it out to be. its actually quite pleasing. The screen isnt as big as it appears in the photos, but that is something that you will quickly get past once you start using it. There are quite a few things that you can do with this deck, so reading the directions will really help you. If your like me tho, eff taking the time to read them, ill figure it out by just playing with it. Some things you will need step by step directions for. For instance, syncing the blue tooth on your phone to make hands free phone calls, and playing music from your library on your phone. Sound quality isnt the super best while making calls, but just the fact that your talking without having to hold anything, plus that its in stereo is hella nice. when a call is incoming, you can start and end the call by pressing buttons on the remote...no need to mess with the phone. There is caller id..but only the number shows up. You can sync your phone book with the deck which is nice, but i havent had time to do so, so i cant say how well that works. when playing music from your phone the quality is actually not that bad. just turn the volume up all the way on your phone for best quality. You can hook up an external hard drive or geek stick and play music that way as well. Only complaint i have there is if you leave it attached when turning off the car, then go back and turn it on, sometimes it wont read the information causing you to unplug and replug until it works. The equalizers and presets allow for some serious tuning of your system. its also got this thing where it optimizes whatever music your playing to make it sound its best. Cant remember the name of it, but factor that into your tuning and your system will bang. This isnt a real flashy deck, so if your looking for something to compete with a touch screen, or something with fancy graphics, then this isnt for you. But if you want something that has serious functionality and still looks good, then i highly recommend this to you. As I use this thing I find myself wanting other neat features but considering the features that it already has as well as the price, I'm pretty satisfied. I got this for my '03 Subaru Legacy here on Amazon refurbished for $200. It is a superb head unit. This is the third Pioneer deck I have owned, and this one is the best. I liked it because of the simple, large button interface, as well as the features.

I had professionals install it, and they did a great job. The USB input is wired into my glove box for and Ipod, or usb drive. I had a Zune Cable Pack installed for Aux 1 which is wired to come out of the pocket underneath the unit, and they ran the microphone up to the visor area.

So far everything works great. In ten minutes I was able to get my Samsung Epix phone to synch up with the BT. This is a Windows Mobile 6.1 device and despite what others have said, mine works great. I have used the audio connect and the hands free phone through the unit.

The reasons that I didn't give this unit five stars are:
1) The interface is not particularly intuitive - but after some practice it starts to make sense, and I would rather have a learning curve to get over than have 25 buttons littering the front of the unit.
2) The display should have more than three lines. They have so much real estate on the front, a screen that had more lines would be much better for navigating an ipod or a phone book.

The biggest pro for me is the sound. My stock speakers sounded good with the factory head unit, but they sound like brand new high end speakers with the Pioneer.

A close second is the feature set. The iPod integration is the best that I saw in any unit, and it sure beats the axillary input mod kit that I was running beforehand. The sound from the iPod is great. Also keep in mind that it's a USB input, not just an iPod input. Plug in an external hard drive or thumb drive and you're in buisness, too. The addition of the Bluetooth connectivity was a major selling point, and it delivers a great convenience that I would really miss now that I'm used to it. I can leave my phone out of reach (in the trunk even) and I can still answer it if it rings.

The biggest con is the user interface- it does take a bit to learn the ins and outs, but once you do, very few times is it a bother (the 'pause' option is buried in the function submenu, which is annoying, but since the unit automatically pauses the music for incoming / outgoing calls, it's only a problem in, say, drive thru's).

The pros VASTLY outweigh the cons, and the price is far below what I would expect for a unit with this feature set. That gets this unit a 5 Star rating - iPod, Bluetooth, CD, HD & Satellite Radio ready- there really aren't any features left for you to want!

I installed this stereo to work with Sirius, an iPod through the USB/iPod connection, miscellaneous items through auxiliary input, bluetooth handsfree, and to stream audio via bluetooth with my iPhone running 3.0 firmware.

CDs and iPod audio sounds wonderful on my car's stock speakers. To my surprise, the bluetooth audio connection sounds just as good. It was very easy to pair, once the A2DP bluetooth profile was made available for iPhone 3.0. Prior to that, pairing with my two different phones was simple. It would pick up a phone conversation as soon as one came in, switching away from whatever other input I was listening to, and then switching back to it once the call had ended - very nice. It will also continue a phone conversation from your phone to the car once you enter the vehicle, or once you exit it will continue the conversation to your phone - also very nice to not have to wait to exit/enter the car.

I see what Pioneer was trying to do with the one-button system to feel like an iPod and I can see why some people were confused, but it didn't take very long to get used to. The display is also very nice, with indicators when bluetooth handsfree and bluetooth stereo are connected.

Amazon's price was almost 20 percent less when I ordered four months ago - it's odd how prices fluctuate.

EDIT: I'm at the 11 month period of ownership with this stereo. In that time period, I've since upgraded to the iphone 3GS model, and the stereo still connects to it without any trouble. Good:
Sound quality is good, but I'm not as picky as some are. It has lots of options for sound so if you are picky, you can customize it to your set up and speakers.

The interface is driven mainly with the big knob. It takes a little time to get used to, but it does make sense. I recommend that after getting it, sit in the car in your driveway and just go through the manual.

It works with my iPhone. It paired via bluetooth and downloaded my address book. When I get a call the music/radio stops and then shows the number and caller on the iPhone and stereo display. Audio quality is a little better than that of the speaker phone. I have my phone mounted on a arm attached near the stereo. I can still use the other portions of the iPhone while playing music through the stereo.

It's also cool that you can turn stereo ipod control off and use the ipod/iphone itself as controller. I can turn my iPhone towards my wife in the car and play a video podcast that she can watch and I can hear.


There are some things that I think pioneer made a mistake on this unit.
Bad:
There is NO play/pause button on the unit itself. You have to go to the remote and there it's not labeled play/pause but "pgm." So you have to go looking for the remote when you go through the drive-thru at a fast food joint. I think that any car head end that requires the use of the remote is poorly designed. What is funny is that this unit isn't cramped for space so it could have easily have one.

The random function is quirky. If you're already in a playlist on the ipod or in folder of mp3s and you press the random button it takes you back to the root level and randomly plays from there. You then have to navigate back to your playlist where the songs them play randomly.

Also it always switches to iPod/usb when you plug the the iPod in. Sometimes I just want to charge my iPhone and listen to the radio.

Sound Retrieve mode, It's supposed to make compressed audio (mp3/aac files) sound better. The only difference to my ears is that the song sounds like it has more low end. The EQ can do that as well. I didn't buy it for that feature so I's not a big deal either way. It doesn't make it sound worse. But there is no reason that it should have a button on the interface. Either you want it on for your mp3 or you don't. You wouldn't constantly be turning it on and off. It's already in the audio menus where it should be.

I wish I could remap its function to be a play/pause.

This is not a review about installation. I had the Best Buy Geeks do it and they were great; placed the microphone exactly where I wanted.

My worries about the promise of the unit's feature set just melted as the installer hooked it up and quickly set the migration of my iPhone 3G phone book, the hands-free bluetooth telephone, the stereo bluetooth audio playback, the iPod control via USB (from iPhone) and the AUX input hidden in the glove box. Aside from a wiring harness, no additional parts were needed. I supplied the Pioneer iPod interface cable (though you can use a good spare one) and a Monster 3.5 mm stereo mini-jack to mini-jack cable.

As others have reported, when you plug in the iPhone 3G via USB the phone display will show a message about compatibility and that you can switch iPhone to Airplane mode. Ignore or say no and your iPod control works perfectly. Additionally, the iPhone charges when connected this way though other users have had varied results. I keep an additional Griffin charger plugged into the dash's 12V power port and use it when I have the iPhone playing in bluetooth mode. The sound via stereo bluetooth is nearly as good as via the USB dock connector. You'll never get any compatibility message on your iPhone display when you're in bluetooth audio mode.

My unit was manufactured in May 2009 (this information is located on the unit or box). This was before iPhone 3.0 software was released. The manufacturer does not promise 3G hardware or 3.0 software compatibility so one should not be too annoyed with the brief display message. It just works otherwise.

Installation went well, purchased the appropriate wiring harness and antenna adapter for my car, followed the wiring diagram and plugged it in. The double din fits as if it was factory installed, looks good. Installed four new Pioneer speakers at the same time and the whole package sounds great. The two features that I am most impressed with are the USB input and the bluetooth. I have a couple of 4 gb USB Zip drives I plug in to give me hours of playback. As for the bluetooth I tried three different portable blutooth devices with my phone and had trouble hearing on all of them to the point I quit using them. With this unit source audio is silenced when receiving a phone call and the call is played over the car speakers. The calls are crystal clear on both ends. When first connecting my phone it downloaded my address book and allows me to scroll through the address book to make calls directly from the Pioneer. Displays caller ID when receiving calls. Receiver is great! The iPOD interface works well and the search feature is handy. It has a number of display and audio settings that allow you to customize it. It takes alittle while to get use to the buttons and features. Display is hard to see on bright days but not a big issue. Bluetooth works well. Very nice to be hands free with the phone. Installed an aux jack which works well also. Since my purchase, 2 other family members have purchased this receiver. This unit is excellent in every way, It doesn't fit my dash opening exactly but it's nothing I can't live with. Excellent sound quality and the reception is incredible. The bluetooth was easy to setup and the usb cable that comes with it made it simple to use my thumb drive. This deck has everything I wanted. Installation wasn't too difficult and it comes with a shim to fill any potential gap you may have between the deck and the dashboard panel. It's a nice big double-din which makes it easy to use. I hate trying to find tiny buttons when I'm tryin to drive. The big round knob does take a bit of practice and learning to know how to use all the players functions but it's very easy to use once you have it figured out.

The sound quality is pretty good but I never compared it to any other decks so I'm just saying that subjectively. My favorite part of this deck is that it can use USB mass storage devices (most mp3 players/flash drives) to play MP3's and other formats which is a HUGE bonus. I can't begin to tell you how nice it is to stick ALL your music on a flash drive, plug it in and never have to switch a CD again. One minor flaw however is that it limits the bitrate it will play to 320kbps. Any file with a bitrate over 320kbps won't play. Mind you, that's pretty high but I have alot of music in FLAC (lossless, uncompressed format) and I was a bit bummed that I couldn't use the lossless WMA or iTunes files with this deck, they had to be compressed first =/

The bluetooth hands free works great now, although setting it up was a little tricky due to my LG phone not having thorough instructions. Basically, I had to turn off some bluetooth security option MANUALLY before telling the phone I wanted it to connect to the deck. I would have thought just telling the phone to connect would to the deck would work but apparently the LG engineers don't like to make things easy and it wasn't in the instructions with the phone. I also had some problems getting the phonebook to transfer all at once but I suspect its not the pioneer's fault but my cheap LG phone. I was able to transfer each phone book entry one at a time though. None of this stuff is a con against the Pioneer deck btw, but you might have similar problems with your phone and knowing the solution could save you some time.

I purchase this basically for the iPod and Bluetooth features. I had it installed into my Hyundai Tucson (2009), no cutting of the dashboard was necessary.
I immediately connected my iPod and Blackberry devices and they both worked perfectly. I now have to go to the manual to fine tune the devices, that's the rough part. This unit has so many features I wonder if I will use or remember all. Don't try and figure it out on your own, you will get lost.
Don't purchase the iPod cable that's recommended, it comes with one and a USB cable. The manual is on CD so be prepared to do some printing.
The music is crisp and clear and that's with the vehicle's factory installed speakers. It plays my burnt CDs and MP3s. The reception with the phone is absoutly clear, I look forward to someone calling me. Now have to transfer the phone's phonebook to the unit.
I do not regret this purchase.

This is the second Pioneer car radio I have owned. I will not go wiht any other brand. The installation was abrease. I installed it on my 2004 Honda Pilot and had no problems. It fit like a glove. I was able to use the brackets that held the stock radio in place and with the additional harness I bought, all I had to do was match wire color to wire color. The sound its great even with the stock speakers. The controls take a little getting use to, but nothing dramatic. I had to purchase a trim kit to make it look more professional. All and all I am 99% satisfied with this product; the only gripes are that the controls could be more user friendly and that I lost the steering wheel mounted controls. Cons:
1. USB hard drive size is limited to 250 GB, 500 directories and 15000 songs. Since it has the 500 dirs/15000 songs limitation you can typically use about 60 GB (out of 250 GB) depending on your songs length, etc.

I am giving this unit a 4 start rating because of these limitations and because of the figuring out process that you have to go through in order to get the most of the USB hard drive functionality.

I wanted to write a quick HowTo for the USB hard drive functionality so other people that want to use this feature don't have to spend 1-2 days like myself wondering how to get it working.

1. Use a USB hard drive that is mass media storage compliant.
2. Use FAT32Formatter (as specified by another review of this item). Partitioning and formatting this from linux (using fdisk, mkdosfs) will not work.
3. If you have more than 500 directories flatten them out since the unit won't read more than that. I wrote some scripts that do that automatically given a directory structure. Let me know if you need them and I'll post them here. They will only work with linux/unix.
4. You might have to buy an additional cigarette lighter to USB adapter in order to provide extra power to your hard drive. If your hard drive work by just connecting it to the USB cable of the FH-P8000BT you don't need this step. [...]
